MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Food Department of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has clarified complaints circulating on social media regarding the quality and color of government-supplied flour.
In a press release, the spokesperson of the Food Department said that the wheat being distributed meets approved quality standards.
The statement added that the Government of Pakistan annually supplies 300,000 tons of wheat to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) through PASSCO following approval from the Federal Ministry of National Food Security and Research.
For the current crop year, wheat is being supplied to the Food Department in a ratio of 50 per cent domestic and 50 per cent imported wheat, in line with the decision of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).
It further said that the imported wheat grains supplied to the Food Department are blackish in color due to being produced in cold regions; as a result, the color of the flour produced by grinding them is also dark.
“The Food Department carries out the delivery after laboratory testing of wheat/flour, and it is ensured that in no case is substandard wheat/flour delivered,” the spokesperson said.
The department further said that citizens can lodge their complaint regarding quality with the concerned depot or district office or on helpline 1280, on which immediate action will be taken.
