ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Meteorological Department of Pakistan forecasts that the first fast of Ramadan 1447 AH (2026) will likely begin on February 19, 2026.

The moon may be visible on the evening of February 18. Authorities have urged citizens to follow official announcements before starting the fast. The department reports that the Ramadan moon (hilal) will be born on February 17 at 5:01 PM Pakistan Standard Time.

The moon in Karachi will be 26 hours old by the evening of February 18, which allows easier viewing in clear skies. Meteorologists say the hilal should be at least 19 hours old for naked-eye visibility.

The moon will be easier to see because the sun will set at 6:25 PM in Karachi, while the moon sets at 7:24 PM. Meteorologists predict partly cloudy skies across the country, which may slightly hinder observation.

They will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates. The hilal verification process will be conducted by religious scholars together with local moon-sighting committees, who will end by declaring Ramadan’s beginning.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and provincial committees will make the final decision according to Islamic law. Pakistan traditionally relies on moon sightings, although astronomers often use calculations as a guide.

Experts stress that clear skies and favorable weather are crucial for accurate observation. Authorities have asked communities to cooperate during the sightings to ensure a smooth and unified announcement.

Citizens should wait for official confirmation before starting fasting or performing Tarawih prayers. The combination of scientific data and religious observation ensures a correct Ramadan beginning throughout Pakistan, even though regional sightings might show minor differences.
