Teacher suspended for corporal punishment in Abbaspur

RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): A government school teacher has been suspended for corporal punishment in Abbaspur Tehsil of Poonch District.

According to the order issued by the District Education Officer, Muhammad Qamar Hafeez, teacher of Quran at Boys Primary School West Chaffar was found guilty of corporal punishment of Class III student Zohaib Azam.

“As per the report of Assistant Education Officer Constituency No. 1, Abbaspur, Muhammad Qamar Hafeez, Teacher of Quran Boys Primary School West Chaffar is hereby suspended from service with immediate effect.”

The DEO has also made an inquiry committee to probe the matter and ordered the committee to submit the report within three days.

The committee will be chaired by the Principal of the Government Boys Elementary College Khatrik Rawalakot, Sardar Zarif Khan, while Urdu Subject Specialist Ayaz Ahmed Sher is appointed Secretary. Superintendent of District Education Office (Male) is appointed as a member of the committee.

The development came after the student’s parents shared the photos of the student and a public message demanding justice, which went viral on social media.

They said that Muhammad Qamar Hafeez subjected an 8-year-old student, Zohaib Azam, to such brutal torture that the innocent child has become unable to walk. Azam’s parents claimed that the teacher also subjected three to four other students to corporal punishment.
