ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan has accepted the invitation extended by US President Donald Trump to join the Board of Peace (BoP) on Gaza, the Foreign Office (FO) said on Wednesday.

On January 18, the FO spokesperson Tahir Andrabi confirmed that Donald Trump has officially invited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to attend the ‘Board of Peace on Gaza‘, an international transitional body formed to deliberate on Trump’s Gaza peace plan.

Islamabad’s decision to join the peace board is part of its ongoing efforts to support the implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan under the framework of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, the statement read.

Pakistan expresses the “hope that with the creation of this framework, concrete steps will be taken towards the implementation of a permanent ceasefire, further scaling up of humanitarian aid for the Palestinians, as well as reconstruction of Gaza.”

Furthermore, the statement added that Islamabad also hopes that these efforts will lead to the realization of the right to self-determination of the people of Palestine, through a credible, time-bound political process, consistent with international legitimacy and relevant UN resolutions, resulting in the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

“Pakistan looks forward to continuing to play a constructive role as part of the Board of Peace for the achievement of these goals, as well as to end the suffering of our Palestinian brothers and sisters,” the FO stated.

Under its proposed administrative and diplomatic measures to achieve peace in Gaza, President Trump sent invitations to the heads of various countries to join the proposed Peace Board and participate in joint efforts towards stability, access to aid, restoration of basic facilities, and a long-term political solution following the ceasefire in Gaza.

The initiative is supported by multiple significant countries, including a number of Muslim countries. Turkey, UAE, and many others have already joined the boad of peace, and others are following up.

Analysts view the US President’s invitation to PM Shehbaz as a successful diplomatic development and a sign that Pakistan’s international reputation, diplomatic weight, and trust have increased.

They say that this success is the result of consistent state diplomacy, timely coordination, and effective strategy in line with national interests, which includes coordinated efforts of civil diplomacy as well as military diplomacy. Pakistan is seen as a responsible, mature, and solution-oriented party.
