DHAKA (Kashmir English): The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has maintained its stance of not sending its team to India for the T20 World Cup 2026.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued a statement on its meeting with the ICC delegation in Dhaka.

According to the BCB, the issue of the team’s participation in the World Cup was discussed with the International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation.

The meeting reiterated the formal request to the ICC to shift Bangladesh’s matches to another venue.

According to the BCB, the instructions of the Bangladeshi government and security concerns were also shared with the ICC delegation.

According to the statement, all discussions took place in a constructive, pleasant, and professional atmosphere, with the parties discussing the relevant issues openly.

The possibility of shifting Bangladesh to another group was also discussed, considering logistical issues.

According to the statement, the ICC delegation included General Manager Events and Corporate Communications, Gaurav Saxen,a and General Manager Integrity Unit Andrew Ephgrave.

According to the statement, the BCB and the ICC have agreed to continue discussions on the matter.

Earlier, the Bangladesh Cricket Board had decided that it would approach the International Cricket Council (ICC) to transfer the matches of Bangladesh that are scheduled to take place in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 from India to Sri Lanka because of security issues.

This was decided during an emergency virtual consultative meeting held by BCB with President Aminul Islam at the helm.

The officials of the board agreed to write a letter to the ICC regarding concerns about the security of Bangladeshi players while traveling to India and about the details of the 2026 tournament, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

The BCB is going to ask the ICC about the security arrangements of the entire squad of Bangladesh during the upcoming World Cup because, according to them, adequate security could not be ensured for individual players in India.

This comes on the heels of the release of fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who played for the Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
