MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Inland Revenue Department, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, has resolved a long-standing issue faced by taxpayers regarding recognition on the Active Taxpayers List (ATL) of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Government of Pakistan.

The solution has been highlighted in a recent notification from the FBR in a press release released on Thursday. According to the department, “In this regard, there has been a recent FBR notification that offers an effective solution for taxpayers from Azad Kashmir who were already registered on the list of taxpayers based on the local laws but got problems on the FBR’s web portal.”

Now, in consideration of the new notification, AJK taxpayers who were already in the ATL of the Central Board of Revenue, AZAD Jammu & Kashmir, will be recognized within the FBR system, in accordance with the rules and regulations. Their status regarding taxation will be determined accordingly.

The Inland Revenue Department indicates that this measure eliminates concerns of double taxation, issues related to non-recognition, and increases harmonization, certainty, and efficiency.

The department also stressed its commitment to continued reforms to assist taxpayers and ensure legal compliance, cooperation, and coordination among agencies.
