DHAKA (Kashmir English): Bangladesh has entirely rejected India’s statement regarding a recent demonstration outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, questioning how protesters were allowed to approach a highly secured diplomatic zone.

Bangladesh’s interim government Foreign Affairs Adviser M Touhid Hossain made the remarks hours after the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) dismissed reports in Bangladeshi media about a protest held in front of the mission following the killing of a Hindu man in Mymensingh.

Rejecting the Indian statement, Hossain said the issue had been oversimplified. He questioned how a group described as belonging to a Hindu extremist organisation could reach such a sensitive diplomatic area, stating that under normal circumstances this would not have been possible without being allowed access.

He said the protest was not limited to slogans over the killing but also included other statements, adding that reports published in Bangladeshi newspapers were largely accurate and not misleading.

However, when asked about reports of alleged death threats to the Bangladeshi envoy in New Delhi, Hossain said there was no concrete proof.

Hossain said Bangladesh was compelled to respond publicly following the Indian press note but emphasized that both sides remain in contact through diplomatic channels to convey their respective positions.

He added that India should ensure appropriate security for its diplomatic mission and warned that Bangladesh would consider scaling back its presence if the situation were to deteriorate.
