SHIMLA (Kashmir English): Authorities in India have intensified discriminatory action against the Muslim community, raising serious concerns over selective law enforcement and growing Islamophobia under the Modi-led government.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in Himachal Pradesh, the demolition of upper floors of Sanjauli Masjid in Shimla has begun after official approval of the budget.

The mosque had already seen two floors removed earlier. Mohammad Latif, president of the mosque committee, said the action caused deep pain and a sense of being singled out, with authorities proceeding despite the religious sentiments of the local Muslim population.

Similar measures were reported in Uttarakhand, where the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority sealed the first and second floors of a mosque in Kandogal village, citing lack of registration and approval for construction.

Community members argued that many other illegal structures remain untouched, while places of worship are being singled out, creating fear and insecurity among Muslims.

Observers say these actions reflect a broader pattern of state-backed Islamophobia in India, with the Modi government using legal and administrative measures to marginalize the Muslim community, restrict their religious freedom, and send a chilling message against dissent.
