ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Foreign Office on Thursday conveyed a strong demarche to the Norwegian Ambassador to Pakistan, Per Albert Ilsas, for attending the proceedings of lawyer Imaan Mazari’s case in the Supreme Court today.

The foreign affaris ministry said, “We have received a report that on 11 December 2025, you attended a hearing at the Supreme Court for a case related to Iman Mazari.”

“This is tantamount to deliberate interference in internal matters of Pakistan and is a flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention 1961,” the demarche reads, emphasising that under the Convention’s Article 41, diplomats are bound to respect the laws of the receiving state and not interfere in its internal affairs.

The ministry further stated that this is not a singular incident; “we have observed a pattern of activity by the Norwegian side where elements hostile to the Pakistani state are supported and promoted by Norwegian NGOs.”

“Court cases related to individuals who are accused of being involved in anti-state activities are a highly sensitive internal matter for the country. We cannot tolerate any association by the diplomatic corps with anti-state elements,” the demarche added.

“As Pakistan respects the sovereignty of Norway in its internal matters, we expect that Norway would also respect Pakistan’s sovereignty,” it added.

The Foreign Office emphasised that Norway must continue to “abide by its commitments to the Vienna Conventions” and observe the norms of diplomatic engagement and protocol in the future.
