NEW YORK (Kashmir English): X (formerly Twitter) has rolled out its long-anticipated ‘X Chat’ platform to its messaging system since the company introduced DMs.

The new experience replaces the platform’s basic inbox with a feature set that feels closer to modern messaging apps.

Now, it includes voice and video calling, file sharing, editing and deleting messages, and new privacy tools such as end-to-end encryption and screenshot alerts.

The feature is currently available on iOS and the web, while an Android release is listed as “coming soon.”

X also confirmed that a voice memo option, which will enable users to send quick audio messages, is in development.

This is an upgrade the company has been teasing for months. Earlier in the year, X launched an early version of encrypted messaging, but paused in May to fix issues it didn’t disclose.

The new rollout suggests those early limits have changed.

According to a newly updated help center article, X now supports both encrypted group messages and encrypted media.

The company says that it is working on developing tools to allow users to confirm the authenticity of their encrypted chats.

With these upgrades, X is pushing its messaging service closer to a full chat app, although many security-focused features are still a work in progress.
