ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The former Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan has been released from Israeli detention following his arrest last week.

His arrest was made by the Israeli troops of the Global Sumud Flotilla, an aid convoy en route to Gaza under siege, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar affirmed on Tuesday.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, in a statement on X, said that “former Senator Mushtaq has been released” and is now safe with the Pakistan Embassy in Amman, the Jordanian capital.

He is in good health and high spirits. The Embassy remains prepared to arrange his return to Pakistan, in consonance with his wishes and convenience,” he added.

Additionally, Dar expresses thanks to all the friendly nations that remained actively engaged and cooperative in this regard to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the ex-senator also posted a video on his X account in which he stated that the fight against the Israeli blockade was not over.

“I have reached Jordan along with 150 of my companions,” he said, adding that he had finally been released from Israeli detention.

“During this time, our hands were cuffed behind our backs, our feet were shackled and chained, we were blindfolded, dogs were set upon us, guns were pointed at us, and we were tortured in the worst way,” he said.

Earlier on Monday, the Foreign Office stated that it is laboring day and night to ensure the safe evacuation of ex-senator Mushtaq Ahmad.

“With the invaluable help of the Jordanian government, we remain hopeful that the process can be completed in the next couple of days,” the FO added.

In a statement on Sunday, the Foreign Office said it was actively engaged with international partners to ensure the “safety and prompt repatriation” of Pakistanis detained by Israel.

“We have been further advised that, in accordance with local legal procedures, [former] senator Mushtaq will be presented before a court. Upon the issuance of deportation orders, his repatriation will be facilitated on a fast-track basis,” it reads.
