DUBAI (Kashmir English): After refusing to receive the official Asia Cup 2025 trophy, Indian players are now facing criticism for posting what supporters referred to as “fake trophy photos” on social media.
Indian players Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill took photographs of themselves with a trophy posted on social media.
But cricket fans were quick to notice that the team never actually received the official Asia Cup silverware during the post-match ceremony; instead, they were posting pictures with a fake trophy.
Players were ridiculed on social media by fans asking what they intended to prove with “photoshopped pictures” when the real trophy was denied.
The embarrassment arises from India’s first-ever refusal of the Asia Cup trophy by Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi after their win over Pakistan.
The Board of Cricket Council India (BCCI) officially informed the ACC of the rejection, and thus, the trophy was lifted out of the field.
Mohsin Naqvi, taking a firm stance, handed the runner-up cheque to Pakistan’s captain, Salman Ali Agha, instead. The closing ceremony ended without the champions holding a trophy.
Yesterday night India won the Asia Cup 2025 title by 5 wickets against Pakistan, the green shirts set a target of 147 runs.
