ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has granted the implementation of Wi-Fi 7 and future Wi-Fi generations in the 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz).
In a press release, the regulator stated the approval is in line with parameters previously established for Wi-Fi 6E. It represents a significant milestone in advancing the country’s digital connectivity.
In terms of PTA, the step positions Pakistan among the first movers of Wi-Fi 7 in the Asia-Pacific region.
The initiative is anticipated to provide quicker, more stable connectivity across numerous industries, fortifying Pakistan’s digital transformation vision.
Wi-Fi 7 is said to deliver ultra-high data rates, reduced latency, and strong reliability.
The technology is meant to drive future-proof applications like 8K streaming, AR/VR, and industrial automation.
By relieving congestion in older spectrum bands, Wi-Fi 7 is also set to improve user experience and enable next-generation digital services.
The regulator also emphasized that the transition to Wi-Fi 7 would minimize broadband delivery expenses while enhancing connectivity among households, small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), campuses, healthcare establishments, and smart cities.
Enhanced digital infrastructure is likely to spur innovation, open up access to basic services, and increase overall productivity.
PTA highlighted that the achievement is a testament to its resolve to close the digital divide, promote network resilience, and develop Pakistan’s inclusive digital economy.
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to further formulate policies and regulations that facilitate the use of cutting-edge technology and cater to the nation’s long-term digital development.
