Seven dead as tuition centre roof collapsed in Hafizabad

HAFIZABAD (Kashmir English):  In a tragic incident, at least seven individuals, including five children, died as the tuition centre roof collapsed in Hafizabad.

The tragic incident took place in the Farooq Azam neighborhood of Sukhki Mandi, Pindi Bhattian tehsil of Hafizabad district on Saturday, where tuition classes were going on in a residential house.

The mother and son were teaching the children when the roof of the house suddenly collapsed, as a result of which she and several students were buried under the rubble.

Rescue teams reached the spot immediately after the incident and shifted the victims to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, where they were confirmed dead.

The teacher, her son, and 5 students died in the accident. As soon as the incident was reported, District Police Officer Hafizabad, Atif Nazir, reached the spot and reviewed the rescue operations.

The DPO directed the rescue agencies to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured and complete the process of removing the debris as soon as possible.

He expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and offered his condolences and sympathy to the affected families.

According to rescue sources, three students were initially reported dead after the accident, but more of the injured succumbed to their injuries during treatment, taking the death toll to seven, including the teacher and her son.

Rescue officials also released the identities of the deceased, who include 60-year-old Sarwar Bibi, 9-year-old Abdul Rehman, 5-year-old Omar, 4-year-old Rohan, and 8-year-old Rehan.
