MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Kashmir Forest Department has strongly denied allegations of timber smuggling against Chaudhry Inam-ul-Haq, brother of the Prime Minister, Anwar ul Haq.

In previous days, several reports circulated on social media, claiming that PM AJK’s brother is involved in the smuggling of wood from the Dudhnial area in the Sharda Division of the Forest Department.

It added that the DFO Sharda Division was informed about the illegal act; instead of taking action, he tried to prove the timber legal by making a fake permit in the name of a local wood industry.

However, the forest department spokesperson, in its recent statement, termed the allegations are baseless propaganda and contrary to facts.

The statement clarified that Faizan Wood Industry purchased 251 m3 of Deodar wood worth Rs 0.89 million from the Sharda Depot, using the required forms and following departmental rules.

The 45 m3 of timber was prepared, which included 13 beds, and sold to Chaudhry Inam-ul-Haq, with all necessary documentation and transportation forms issued, the forest department spokesperson said.

He added that the department found no evidence of illegal or illicit activity in the sale and transportation of the timber.

The statement added that the department reserves the right to take legal action against those spreading false information on social media.
