Pakistan claimed a five-wicket win against the West Indies in their three-match ODI series on Friday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago. With this win, Pakistan takes a 1-0 lead in the series
In the first ODI, West Indies scored 280 in 49 overs. Evin Lewis batted brilliantly when Brandon King was removed early, but the team fell to 136/4.
Shai Hope scored 55 runs and Roston Chase added 53, for a total of 64. Gudakesh Motie scored 31 off 18 deliveries, and Shaheen Afridi claimed four wickets.
Pakistan lost Saim Ayub early and finished 180/5, needing 101 from 12.4 overs.
The West Indies appeared to be in charge, but Hasan Nawaz and Hussain Talat combined for an undefeated 104-run stand to lead Pakistan to a comfortable victory.
In ODI cricket, the Windies and Pakistan have faced each other 138 times. West Indies has now won 71 games overall, compared to Pakistan’s 64. Meanwhile, according to ESPNcricinfo, three games have ended in a draw.
