MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Food Authority has seized a vehicle full of contaminated oil and destroyed a large batch of edible oil that was deemed unfit for human consumption after laboratory tests.
According to the food authority, the action was taken under the supervision of Deputy Director Food Muzaffarabad/Poonch Division, Sardar Muhammad Saqib, and District Food Controller Abrar Ahmed Mir.
The seized oil was found to be potentially hazardous to human health, and its consumption could have led to serious health issues, including heart disease, liver failure, stomach problems, and other fatal diseases.
While addressing the meeting, Deputy Director Food said that the Food Authority Muzaffarabad is committed to ensuring the implementation of the Food Authority Act 2017 and the Pure Food Regulations 2019.
“The ongoing crackdown against substandard and unhealthy food items is being intensified across Azad Kashmir,” he said.
The official stated that the authority has warned traders to adhere to the regulations and sell only registered and standard food items. “Failure to comply will result in strict legal action, including heavy fines and FIRs.”
The Food Authority Muzaffarabad is not only taking enforcement action but also conducting awareness campaigns to educate the public about food safety, he added.
