Pakistan condemns recent Israeli attacks on Syria, calls for compliance with Intl law

NEW YORK (Kashmir English): Pakistan has condemned the Israeli attacks on Syria and demanded respect for Syrian sovereignty and international law.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar, while making a statement on the situation in Syria, said that Israel’s continuous violations are a sign of unbridledness, and these violations have increased due to not holding Israel accountable.

Asim Iftikhar said that Israel’s violations are weakening the UN Charter and the international legal system, and Israeli actions are an attempt to destabilize the region.

Pakistani representative said that after a decade, new hope for peace, dignity and reconstruction of Syria is emerging among the Syrian people, and there are clear signs of re-establishing political and economic ties in Syria.

He added that major sanctions have been lifted, which has provided relief to the Syrian economy, slow but clear progress is being made towards national reconstruction in Syria, and the Syrian leadership has expressed its intention to establish peaceful relations in the region.

The ambassador said that Israel’s attacks on Syria are extremely irrational and harmful, Syria needs solidarity and support at this time, Pakistan expresses full solidarity with the Syrian people.

Notably, on Wednesday, the Israeli army targeted the Syrian Ministry of Defense building in heavy airstrikes on the Syrian capital.

According to the news agency, Israel also carried out airstrikes near the presidential palace in Damascus
