MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The funeral prayer of Major Rab Nawaz, a Pakistan Army officer who was martyred while fighting terrorists in Balochistan’s Awaran district, was offered in his hometown of Muzaffarabad on Thursday.
The funeral prayer was held at Khurshid Hasan Khurshid Ground in Muzaffarabad, with civil and military officials, including Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq and a large number of citizens in attendance.
AJK Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar and government ministers, including Deewan Ali Khan Chughtai, Sardar Javed Ayub, Syed Bazal Naqvi, and Chaudhry Muhammad Rashid, also attended the final rituals.
The martyred Major was laid to rest with full military honors in his ancestral graveyard in Naya Mohalla, Muzaffarabad. The General, Corps Commander, and Divisional Commander laid wreaths at the martyr’s grave. Local military leadership and senior political figures also paid their respects to the martyr.
Chaudhry Anwarul Haq met Major Rab Nawaz’s family and expressed his condolences, paying rich tribute to the martyr’s sacrifice.
“The entire nation is proud of Major Rab Nawaz Shaheed, and we salute the martyr for sacrificing his life for the country,” he said, adding that the armed forces’ eternal sacrifices against terrorism will always be remembered.
Major Rab Nawaz, fondly known as “Goshi” by his relatives and the people of the neighborhood, was remembered for his kind heart and beloved personality. He belonged to a well-known and prestigious family of Muzaffarabad.
The intelligence-based operation was launched in the Awaran district on Tuesday following reports of the presence of terrorists affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan. During the exchange of fire, security forces engaged the militants, resulting in the killing of three “Indian-sponsored terrorists.”
Major Syed Rabnawaz Tariq, 34, a resident of Muzaffarabad, was martyred during the fierce gun battle, the ISPR said in a statement.
