MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Kashmir government minister of Mangla Dam Affairs, Qasim Majeed, has appointed a new Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Highway Department, in his constituency, LA-2 Mirpur-II, without obtaining prior approval from the Finance Department.
This move has raised serious concerns over the misuse of power by the minister, as Chief Engineer Public Works Qaiser Shafiq has been awarded additional duties, reportedly against rules and procedures.
Sources said that the appointment was made by Qasim Majeed to facilitate him in the forthcoming general elections, ensuring his victory from the constituency. This has sparked concerns about the potential misuse of administrative powers and merit for political gain.
Earlier on July 2, the notification issued by the Communications & Works Department stated that the Secretary C&W AJK has approved the transfer of assignments of the Highways Division Mirpur (Sub-division Islamgarh/Chakswari) to the Chief Engineer Public Works, Highways Mirpur, Qaiser Shafiq.
The appointment, allegedly facilitated by the local MLA Majeed, has been made until further notice, the notification said.
