GENEVA (Kashmir English): At a recent seminar held on the sidelines of the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, global experts called on them to take urgent action against ongoing human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir and Gaza.

The seminar, organized by the World Muslim Congress and the Kashmir Institute of International Relations, brought attention to what participants called serious and repeated breaches of international law. The experts urged the UNHRC and the global community to ensure accountability and intervene immediately to stop the violence and oppression in both regions.

Speakers highlighted that laws like the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and the Public Safety Act (PSA) give Indian forces unchecked powers in Kashmir, leading to arbitrary arrests and abuses. They also pointed out that the situation in Gaza mirrors similar violations, especially in how civilians are treated in occupation.

The experts criticized the Indian judiciary for failing to provide justice to victims, stressing that many are left without any legal recourse. They also expressed deep concern over the fallout from the removal of Article 370 in Kashmir, which has led to economic challenges, loss of jobs, and restrictions on freedoms.

Calling on the organization to act based on its own human rights charters and the Geneva Conventions, the speakers said silence would only allow the situation to worsen. They also warned that the ongoing conflict, especially between two nuclear powers like India and Pakistan, could become a threat to regional and global peace.
