HAVELI KAHUTA (Kashmir English): In the remote area of Neel Ferry, district Haveli Forward Kahuta, Azad Kashmir, brave women set an example by carrying out a remarkable ‘rescue operation’ after a Forest Department vehicle met with an accident.
According to details, last Sunday, a Forest Officer, accompanied by his driver, went to inspect the forests when their vehicle met with an accident and fell 600 feet into a deep ravine in the remote area of Neel Ferry.
Nine women and a young girl
At the time of the accident, there was no one nearby except nine women and a young girl, who reached the spot and proved that women are in no way lesser brave to men.
The women immediately called for charpoys from their homes and carried the two injured on their shoulders, walking 4 kilometers, and helped save a life.
According to local resident Chaudhry Muhammad Tariq, whose aunt was among the women, the vehicle lost control and rapidly fell down.
Tahir Rathore, the driver, was continuously honking the horn to let people know that the vehicle’s brakes had failed.
Upon hearing the sound of the accident, the women reached the spot, prepared a temporary stretcher for the injured and shifted them to a safer place; making this seemingly impossible mission possible.
The vehicle had moved 20 feet further down, while the injured driver Tahir Rathore and the Forest Officer were lying on the ground.
According to Chaudhry Tariq, the women informed his family, and started walking to a safer place.
After the women walked around four kilometers, Tahir’s relatives and local people reached there and shifted both injured to a hospital.
District Forest Officer Haveli Ijaz Qamar Mir told an Arab website that this vehicle belonged to the Forest Department and was sent for the inspection of government land.
Besides driver Tahir Rathore and the Forest Officer, five other people were also in the vehicle, who remained unharmed in the accident.
Ijaz Qamar Mir stated that the roads in these areas are in poor condition, and most people prefer to travel on foot or use a four-by-four vehicle.
According to him, on the way back, the vehicle’s brakes failed on the downhill slope, causing it to rapidly descend and, after hitting a point, fall into the ravine.
According to District Forest Officer Ijaz Qamar Mir, it takes at least four hours to reach the nearest city or hospital from the accident site.
According to the DFO, the injured driver passed away on way to the hospital, while the Forest Officer was promptly taken to the hospital where he received initial medical examination and is now recovering.
DFO Ijaz Qamar describes the same a most appreciable rescue operation in the world.
Local MLA and Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore said in a social media post that he paid tribute to the local women who carried out the ‘rescue operation’.
“These courageous women are the jewels of our forehead; we are proud of them for setting a high standard of humanity.”
