MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): In a major political shift, Chaudhry Rafique Nayyar, a sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has announced his decision to join the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Announcing his decision in conversation with Kashmir Digital, Chaudhry Rafique Nayyar said that his choice to join PPP came after repeated requests from the people of Khuiratta, his constituency.
“PPP is our own party,” he stated. “There were some misunderstandings in the past, but those have now been cleared.”
He further added that he would soon formally become part of the PPP and work towards completing the mission of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The move is seen as a strategic step ahead of future elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chaudhary Rafiq Nair believes PPP can bring real change in the region. “We will form a government in Azad Kashmir that truly addresses the issues of the people,” he said.
His shift is expected to boost PPP’s presence in the region and signal further realignments in AJK’s political landscape.
Local residents and party workers have responded positively to the announcement, hopeful that Chaudhary Rafiq Nair’s entry into PPP will bring more development and attention to the region’s longstanding issues.
Meanwhile, prominent AJK business Sardar Ilyas Khan has joined PML-N. Shortly after his political shift, Sardar Yasir Ilyas is set to be appointed as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Tourism and Information Technology, according to official sources. The notification regarding his appointment is expected to be issued today.
