MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has reaffirmed its threat to surround the Muzaffarabad grid station if the government fails to completely end load shedding across the city. This comes just days after authorities reportedly suspended night-time outages in select areas.
A spokesperson for JAAC confirmed that the Muzaffarabad grid station siege call remains active, as the relief provided so far is considered inadequate. “Ending load shedding at night only is not a solution,” the statement read. “Until the issue is fully resolved and voltage problems are fixed, our protest call stands.”
Earlier this month, JAAC gave a three-day deadline to the district administration after a meeting between their delegation, led by Core Committee member Shaukat Nawaz Mir, and local officials. The demand was clear: end load shedding or face a public siege of the Muzaffarabad grid station.
The Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee, Muzaffarabad Division, had demanded a complete end to load-shedding during a recent meeting with the district administration and officials of the electricity department. They warned that if this demand is not met, a call will be given to surround the grid station.
JAAC has reiterated that its Core Committee will meet on June 23 to finalise the protest schedule.
In their recent follow-up statement, JAAC expressed frustration over what they see as temporary or symbolic gestures. “People need full relief, not partial fixes. The Muzaffarabad grid station continues to represent our demand for energy justice.”
The public has been urged to maintain unity, as it was through collective efforts that they managed to secure affordable electricity. The spokesperson expressed hope, saying, “God willing, you will soon receive good news regarding freedom from the suffering of load-shedding.”
