WEBDESK: Pakistan has strongly condemned Israeli aggression against Iran and has called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take urgent action. The move came during a UN debate held at the request of Iran, following Israel’s recent airstrikes on Iranian territory.

Speaking at the session, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, warned that Israeli aggression is a serious threat to peace and stability in the region. He said that Iran, like any other sovereign country, has the right to defend itself under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

“This Council must deny Israel the free hand and the impunity with which it continues to operate in defiance of international law and international opinion,” Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN, told the 15-member Council, while denouncing Tel Aviv’s “unjustified and illegitimate aggression” against Iran.

Ambassador Ahmad criticized the timing of the attacks, pointing out that they occurred just as peace talks between the United States and Iran were resuming in Oman. He described this as “morally wrong” and part of a larger pattern of Israeli aggression across the Middle East, including in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen.

“The fact that these attacks against Iran have happened in the middle of a negotiations process aimed at finding a peaceful diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue makes it all the more morally repugnant and against international norms,” he added.

“These actions risk eroding the trust and sanctity of the negotiations process so crucial for the peaceful settlement of these issues,” the Pakistani envoy stressed.

He urged the Security Council to hold Israel accountable for its actions and to work toward a diplomatic solution to prevent further conflict. Pakistan also joined several other countries, including China and Russia, in calling for de-escalation and peaceful dialogue.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi requested the Security Council meeting, saying Israel “has now crossed every red line, and the international community must not allow these crimes to go unpunished.

UN officials, including Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo, echoed the call for calm, warning that continued Israeli aggression could lead to a wider war in the region. She urged all sides to avoid further military actions and to keep diplomatic channels open.

The UNSC has yet to take any official action, but pressure is mounting as countries like Pakistan demand a firm response to stop further Israeli aggression and promote stability in the region.
