MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, on Thursday inaugurated the Makri Intake Weir and Installation of Digital Flow Metering System, a significant project aimed at ensuring a reliable water supply to Muzaffarabad.
As per details, the project has cost over Rs 1.66 billion to complete, under the supervision of the Physical Planning and Housing Department and the cooperation of the Federal Ministry of Energy and Water Resources.
The project will ensure a necessary water supply for the Makri Water Supply Scheme, providing uninterrupted clean drinking water to approximately 4.5 lakh consumers in Muzaffarabad daily.
On this occasion, the premier inspected the construction work and machinery of Makri Intake Weir and received a detailed briefing from officials about the project.
While addressing the inauguration ceremony, PM Chaudhry said that one crore gallons of clean water per day will be provided to the citizens under the newly accomplished project. The premier congratulated the Physical Planning Department and the construction company on the project completion.
“Funds will be ensured to complete all the ongoing mega projects in the capital city”, he added.
Furthermore, the premier added that for the first time, the tax collection targets have been met fully, which also increased from Rs50 billion to Rs70 billion. The government, he said, would present a budget this year without a deficit.
Referring to the provision of cheap electricity and wheat flour being provided to the masses in Azad Kashmir, the PM said, “We should be grateful to Allah for having all that the people of other provinces can’t even imagine”.
Government Ministers Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, Mian Abdul Waheed, Chaudhry Yasir Sultan, and former Advisor to the Government Raja Mubashir Ijaz were also accompanying the Prime Minister.
