Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, other PTI leaders sentenced to 10 years in May 9 cases

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore has sentenced Dr Yasmin Rashid and other PTI leaders to 10 years in prison in two May 9 cases, while acquitting former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Pronouncing the verdict, ATC-I Judge Manzar Ali Gill also sentenced Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, former Punjab governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema, and Senator Ejaz Chaudhry to 10 years in the same case.

The court reserved its verdict in the two cases, including the Shadman police station attack and burning of police vehicles, on Saturday. The ATC completed the proceedings at Kot Lakhpat jail in two sessions during the whole day.

Judge Gill also sentenced PTI leaders Aliya Hamza and Sanam Javed to five years in prison in the Shadman case.

In the Shadman police station case, the court indicted 25 accused out of 41 nominated in the challan and recorded statements of 45 prosecution witnesses. At least 15 accused have been declared proclaimed offenders in this case.
