Breastfeeding awareness takes center stage in AJK

MIRPUR (Kashmir Digital): On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Day, awareness campaigns and rallies are being held at various locations in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of District Health Officer Dr. Syed Shafqat Hussain Shah, where participants highlighted the importance of breast milk for a child’s development.

The meeting was attended by Program Coordinator Dr. Fida Hussain Butt, Assistant Director Surveillance Kamran Gorsi, CO Muhammad Ijaz, Muhammad Hanif, LHS Samina Zafar, ADC Yasmin Kausar, LHW Waseem Akhtar, LHW Taslim Rashid, Fehmida Kausar, SC Muhammad Riyat, HC Aftab Ahmed, QM Muhammad Mahfouz, SC Ehtesham Aziz, CM Shoaib Hashmi, SS Arshad Khan, DSV Muhammad Asghar, media representatives Rizwan Qureshi, Manzar Bashir and others. DHO Dr. Syed Shafqat Hussain Shah briefed the participants and highlighted the importance of breast milk.

He said that exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months after birth and continued breastfeeding until the age of two years is very important for the physical and mental development of children.

This will protect children against diseases. Immunity is built, and the mortality rate is reduced. The DHO has appealed to the scholars, media, and community leaders to raise awareness about the benefits of breast milk within their jurisdiction and help improve the health of the mother and child.

Health Education Officer Abdul Malik Usmani also addressed the meeting and shed light on the medical benefits of breastfeeding and the ongoing awareness campaign by the Health Department.

Finally, all the participants expressed their determination to continue joint efforts to promote breastfeeding and improve child health indicators.
