BAGH (Kashmir English): The Women University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Bagh, on Thursday held its 5th Convocation ceremony, where 1056 students received degrees.
Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, and Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Abdul Hamid, were present on the occasion.
Apart from that, the President of Azad Kashmir, who serves as Chancellor of the university, sent a congratulatory message, emphasizing the importance of education and character building.
Addressing the occasion, the university vice-chancellor said that out of 1056 students, who will be awarded degrees, 216 are from MPhil students, 213 from MA/MSc, 627 from BS, and 45 students will be awarded gold medals.
Professor Dr. Abdul Hamid further said that the AJK Women University currently has 2500 students enrolled in 48 programs across three faculties, and so far, 4162 students have graduated.
Moreover, teachers have submitted more than 25 research projects, out of which four projects received funds of Rs 10.84 million, the varsity vice-chancellor added.
Prof. Hamid said that we are proud that the first Women IT Park is nearing completion for Rs 32 million.
While the second major project for the strengthening of Women University has been approved for Rs 1090 million, and “Construction of Women’s University” for Rs 1795 million.
Currently, 351 female students are studying in medical, dentistry, and pharmacy, he said.
The vice-chancellor further added that keeping in mind the challenges of the present day, the institution has trained female students on important topics such as Fifth Generation War, Cyber Crimes, Mental Health, Breast Cancer, and Digital Literacy, and around Rs 34.88 million has been distributed under various scholarships, internships and leadership programs.
Moreover, the vice-chancellor added that in the Global Impact Ranking 2024, our university was ranked second in Azad Kashmir, 37th in Pakistan, and 400-600 worldwide.
He said that the first international conference, “New Trends in Linguistics, Literature and Social Sciences”, was organized at the Women’s University Bagh in which experts from Malaysia, Iran, Switzerland, and Pakistan participated.
“This year, along with MPhil English and Management Sciences, more five-year programs such as DPT, BS Dental Technology, Nutrition, Islamic Studies, and Banking and Finance have been added, while next year, bioinformatics, pharmacy, and nursing will also start,” the professor told the participants.
