ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Jamil Ahmed on Friday confirmed that the newly designed currency notes will not be available to the public on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The confirmation came after social media was filled with speculation that the State Bank would release newly designed currency notes on Eid this year.
Speaking to journalists in Islamabad, Ahmed clarified that the new currency notes will be issued to the public after the approval of the federal cabinet, printing, and availability of adequate stock, hence they will not be available on Eid.
He said that the security features of the new notes are state-of-the-art, and the common citizen can easily distinguish whether the note is genuine or fake.
Jamil Ahmed further said that the country’s inflation is under control and the financial sector is stable.
He said that the central bank’s focus is on promoting economic development and growth, and the progress in this regard will be consistent and sustainable, which will continue for the next two years.
He further said that during the current fiscal year, out of $10.5 billion, $6 billion in payments have been completed, while the remaining $4 to $4.5 billion in outstanding payments will be made on time.
He said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program includes a rollover arrangement for deposits until September 2027.
