BARMINGHAM (Kashmir English): In the second semi-final of the World Championship of Legends WCL 2025, the South African champions defeated the Australian champions by 1 run to make it to the final.
Chasing 186 runs in the second knockout match of the event played in Birmingham, the Australian champions could score 185 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
Daniel Christian batted out for Australia by scoring 49 runs. Chris Lynn 35, D’Arcy Short 33, Shaun Marsh 25, Ben Dunk 12, Rob Quinney 9 (retired hurt), Ben Cutting 8, Callum Ferguson 3, and Nathan Coulter-Nile were out with individual scores of 0.
Wayne Parnell and Hardis Wilson took 2 wickets each, while Duane Oliver and Imran Tahir took 1 wicket each.
Earlier, South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 186 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated overs.
Morne van Wyk was the standout for South Africa with 76 runs. JJ Smits 57, Duminy 14, Henry Davids 11, Cyril Ervey 9, AB de Villiers 6, Wayne Parnell 3, and Hardis Wilson 0 were the individual scores.
Jack Rudolph 1 and Aaron Fangiso remained not out with a score of 0.
Peter Siddle took 4, D’Arcy Short took 2, while captain Brett Lee and Daniel Christian took 1 wicket each.
The final of the event is scheduled for August 2, where South Africa will face Pakistan.
Notably, Pakistan was given a walkover in the final after India refused to play against Pakistan in the first semi-final.
