ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan received humanitarian assistance from the United States on Saturday in response to the ongoing flood situation in the country.

The United States of America (USA) extended aid to flood-affected people of Pakistan through the Army Central Command (US ARCENT), a press release issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

A total of six flights carrying relief consignments are scheduled to arrive in Pakistan, comprising essential items including tents, dewatering pumps, and generators.

As per the statemenet, the first flight arrived today at Nur Khan Air Base in Rawalpindi.

The US Charge d’Affaires and Commander US ARCENT attended the reception of the initial consignment and formally handed over the relief goods to the Pakistan Army.

“The consignments will be moved to Army Flood Relief Camps for onward distribution among the flood-affected people,” it further said.

The Government and people of Pakistan are thankful to the US Government and Military for standing by the affected population of Pakistan in these testing times, state-run APP reported.

In a social media post, the US embassy in Islamabad said, “US military aircraft delivered essential supplies at the request of the Pakistan military in response to the devastating floods.”

Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker extended condolences to the people of Pakistan, whose lives have been uprooted by the widespread, catastrophic flooding, the post added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday presided over a review meeting in Islamabad, directing the climate change ministry to present within two weeks a comprehensive plan to shield Pakistan from the adverse effects of monsoon rains and floods and to minimize future losses.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has warned the 10th monsoon spell would bring widespread heavy rains to the province starting today.
