MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Senior Most Minister and Home Minister of Azad Kashmir, Colonel (retd) Waqar Ahmed Noor, on Tuesday revealed that recent terrorist acts in AJK may be linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and RAW, operating from Afghanistan.
The minister, along with other cabinet members, made this statement during a press conference at the PID Complex in Muzaffarabad after the 30th meeting of the cabinet. Other government ministers included Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, Chaudhry Rashid, and Akbar Ibrahim.
Senior Minster said the facts will be presented to the nation in the coming days regarding the terrorists with their handlers in Afghanistan operating in Azad Kashmir.
The state minister highlighted the government’s efforts to address the law and order situation in the state, as “Khawarij [terrorists] have reached the region” to disturb peace, he said.
The minister mentioned that a terrorist, named Saqib, was arrested for the martyrdom of a policeman in October 2024, which led to revelations about terrorism in Azad Kashmir.
Additionally, Osama, who was caught on April 5, has made significant revelations about the terrorist activities in the region.
“There are indications that the TTP and RAW from Afghanistan are behind the recent terrorist acts in Azad Kashmir. In this regard, the facts will be presented to the nation in the coming days,” he told reporters.
To address the issue of terrorism, the Azad Kashmir cabinet has decided to deal with anti-national elements and those disturbing peace with an iron hand, he said.
In addition to that, the AJK cabinet has planned to increase the capacity of the Azad Kashmir police to tackle terrorism effectively.
Minister Noor emphasized the importance of public support for the government in maintaining peace and stability in the state and urged journalists to cooperate with the government in creating awareness among citizens for peace.
Apart from that, the minister added taht the cabinet was briefed on the recent incidents of terrorism in the state.
Addressing the press conference, Minister for Rural Development & Local Governments Faisal Mumtaz Rathore emphasized the need for all stakeholders to be on the same page to save Azad Kashmir from the wave of terrorism.
Government Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Rashid also stressed that everyone needs to play their role in the current situation.
