MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): A heart-wrenching tale of love and loss has unfolded in occupied Kashmir, where a young couple’s desperate attempt to be together ended in tragedy.

The bodies of Yasir Khan and Asia Bano, from Uri Tehsil of Indian-occupied Kashmir, were recovered from the Jhelum River at Chinari and Thori Lower Chhatar area of Muzaffarabad three days ago.

According to the details, both were in a relationship and were reportedly facing opposition from their families, which led to their decision to take their own lives.

However, the recovery of their bodies in Azad Kashmir, with visible signs of torture and mutilation, has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

Rescue authorities in Muzaffarabad said that Asia’s body was found with her hair shaved off and her nose cut, sparking concerns about honor killing or suicide. While Yasir’s body was found with a noose around his neck and his legs tied with ropes.

The district administration has confirmed the identities of the couple, hailing from Uri Tehsil of Baramulla District in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). As the authorities have completed the identification process, the bodies are expected to be returned to occupied Kashmir.

Indian media has been reporting that a couple has allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Jhelum River after a love marriage failed to work out.

The tragic end of the star-crossed lovers has sent shockwaves through the community, with many taking to social media to express their grief and outrage. The incident has also raised questions about the societal pressures and expectations that often prioritizes honor and tradition over love and human life.
