ISLAMABAD: A popular Chrome VPN extension, FreeVPN.One, has been found of spying on over 100,000 users, as security experts have issued a warning.

The extension helps users browse websites privately on Google Chrome, but researchers say it may be spying on its users.

The report published by Koi Security has advised internet users to exercise caution as FreeVPN.One takes screenshots of every single website user visit.

The security experts said that the VPN extension obtained two badges from the Google Chrome Store, which might have been mistakenly awarded.

The extension’s feature called ‘AI Threat Detection’ warns users that a screenshot is being taken, but other parts of the extension continue to collect information without the users’ knowledge.

These screenshots include private photos, banking sites, medical records, and other private information.

The experts said that these screenshots are only taken from suspicious websites and are not stored, but these claims are difficult to verify.
