TATTA PANI (Kashmir English): In the town of Tatta Pani, located at the junction of three districts, students at the local Tatta pani Boys High School are attending classes in a building that has grown dangerously weak with time. The structure, once a symbol of education and opportunity, now stands as a growing concern for students, parents, and staff alike.
Students report that not only is the building worn out and in poor condition, but they are also experiencing occasional earthquake tremors in recent days. Despite the risks, they continue to attend school and recite the Kalima Tayyaba before sitting under the damaged roof to begin their lessons.
“There are cracks in the walls, parts of the ceiling are falling, and with these small earthquakes happening now and then, we are really scared,” said one student. “But we have no other option.”
The head of the Tatta pani Boys High School confirmed that the situation is serious. “We have informed the higher authorities several times about the building’s condition and the danger it poses,” he said. “So far, we are still waiting for action to be taken.”
Located in a region known for its seismic activity, Tatta Pani, Azad Jammu and Kashmirs (AJK) often feels tremors. The combination of an ageing school building and these natural events creates an even more urgent need for repairs or reconstruction.
Parents are worried about the safety of their children at the Tatta pani Boys High School, and teachers find it hard to focus on teaching while also constantly thinking about the risk of a possible collapse.
The Tatta pani Boys High School belongs to a growing number of institutions that do not possess enough funding to execute substantial repairs.
The community regularly requests regional officials to delegate high importance to building and moving the school facility. Hundreds of students risk death because immediate actions need to be taken to address the situation.
