ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan cricket team has qualified for the Super 8 stage after defeating Namibia by 102 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the SSC Cricket Ground in Colombo on Wednesday.

Pakistan defeated Namibia in their last Group A match to reach the Super Eight stage. After the Green Shirts’ brilliant victory against Namibia, all 8 teams of the Super Eight have been finalised.

From Group A, Pakistan and India reached the Super 8 stage, while Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe secured a place in the next stage from Group B. From Group C, the West Indies and England, and from Group D, South Africa and New Zealand reached the Super Eight.

The Super Eight lineup was complete today after former T20 World Cup champions Pakistan confirmed their spot. Green Shirts finished Group A in second place, losing only one game to India, while picking up wins over the Netherlands, USA, and Namibia.

Super 8 groups

The eight teams have been divided into two groups; Group 1 includes India, Zimbabwe, West Indies, and South Africa, while Group 2 consists of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England, and New Zealand.

Each team will play three games against each opponent of their group, and the top two sides from each group will move to the knockout semi-finals.

The International Cricket Council (ICC), in its statement, confirmed that teams start the Super Eights with zero points. No points, wins, or net run rate from the first round are carried forward.

Pakistan will play with Sri Lanka, England, and New Zealand to seal their berth in the semi-finals.

Pakistan Super 8 matches date and time

Pakistan will face New Zealand in the first match on February 21 at 6:30 pm (PST) at R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

In the second match of the Super Eights, the Green Shirts will play England on February 24 at 6:30 pm (PST) at Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy, and the third game against Sri Lanka will also be held at the same venue and time on Feb 28.

A tough competition is expected between all the teams to reach the next stage of the tournament, while the eyes of cricket fans are focused on Pakistan’s performance.

Pakistan will have to win at least two of its three matches to reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.
