ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): In a tragic incident, a suicide blast has been reported at a local Mosque, located at the outskirts of Rawalpindi, according to the sources.
The Inspector General Islambad has imposed a high alert, and police and rescue officials have reached the spot. According to the sources, the police officials and security members identified the suicide bomber as a Khwarij and tried to stop him at the gate of the Mosque.
However, when the suicidebomber realised that he could not escape, he exploded himself at the last moment.
12 dead, 22 injured in Suicide Blast
According to the initial information, twenty-two (22) people have been injured, whereas twelve (12) deaths have been reported so far. The authorities have issued a high alert for hospitals, injured are being transferred to the Polyclinic and PIMS hospital in Islamabad.
On the directives of Minister of Interior Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State Talal Chaudhry has reached the hospital to check on the injured. Talal Cjaudhry has directed the medical staff to provide special medical facilities for the injured in the blast.
While speaking to the media, Talal Chaudhry added that the government is determined to provide all possible medical facilities to the injured patients.
The blast occurred after the Jumma prayers; fortunately, due to the timely identification of the suicide bomber, it is believed that the damage was reduced.
PM Shehbaz, President Condemn Blast
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday strongly condemned the blast and expressed immense grief over the loss of lives.
In their separate messages, the president and the prime minister offered heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for the elevation of the ranks of those martyred in the incident.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while speaking with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, directed that the incident be thoroughly investigated and those responsible be identified and brought to justice immediately.
He also instructed the health minister to ensure immediate medical treatment for the injured and asked him to personally monitor the relief efforts.
He stressed that no one would be allowed to create chaos and unrest in the country.
President Asif Ali Zardari said that targeting innocent people was a crime against humanity and reaffirmed that the entire nation stood shoulder to shoulder with the affected families in this hour of grief.
