MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Kashmir government is facing criticism for allegedly supplying substandard 6-year-old wheat, imported from Ukraine, to flour mills across the region.
This has led to widespread health issues, including stomach diseases, among the local population due to the consumption of substandard flour.
Due to the incompetent AJK government, the supply of substandard wheat from Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation Limited (PASSCO) to Azad Kashmir could not be stopped.
The wheat imported from Ukraine is not only old but also of inferior quality, which is then used to produce flour that is not fit for human consumption.
Despite receiving Rs 71 billion in subsidies from the federal government, the Azad Kashmir administration is accused of mismanaging these funds, leading to the procurement of low-quality wheat.
The development has sparked outrage among the public, with civil society members demanding immediate action from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Chief Minister of Punjab, and the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir.
The consumption of poor-quality flour has resulted in various health issues, putting the lives of the local population at risk.
Sardar Altaf Khan, President of the Government Food Association of Azad Kashmir, said that for many years, stockpiled wheat from Ukraine has been delivered to the flour mills of Azad Kashmir, due to which people in all districts of the state are suffering from stomach diseases.
