ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) will reduce gas delivery to six hours per day because the gas supply situation in Lahore has developed into a critical condition.
The gas supply will stop from the afternoon until the evening despite existing low-pressure conditions. The sources report that breakfast and dinner periods will receive gas supply because of the way the schedule has been organized.
Officials announced that the system now experiences multiple supply interruptions, which have made it impossible to deliver gas to customers three times per day, and two times per day has become increasingly hard to achieve.
The company faces difficulties in maintaining constant gas pressure for its customers because interruptions in LNG imports have created a major issue for its operations. The ongoing gas shortage has forced citizens to limit their gas usage because the current supply situation will continue to affect their daily activities.
Gas Supply to Remain Suspended
Gas supply will remain unavailable for one complete day. The Sui Southern Gas Company declared that it would stop providing gas to industrial customers for a complete 24-hour period beginning on the following day.
According to the company, gas supply will be halted from Sunday morning until 8:00 am on Monday, April 13. The decision has been taken due to a shortage of gas in the system, aiming to ensure fair distribution across all sectors.
SSGC announced that the temporary suspension exists to implement load management, which requires the organization to distribute its limited gas resources.
Industrial stakeholders have raised their concerns about the shutdown because they believe that ongoing supply interruptions will cause detrimental effects on their production and business activities.
The Sui Gas authorities published their updated gas supply schedule for Karachi, which disrupted the daily activities of thousands of residents. Sui Southern established three time periods for gas distribution according to its new schedule, which permits gas access from 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
The updated schedule will affect several densely populated areas, including North Karachi, Malir, Orangi, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal, among others. Residents in these localities have been advised to adjust their cooking and household activities in line with the new timings to avoid inconvenience.
Officials have stated that the revised schedule is part of ongoing efforts to manage gas distribution more efficiently amid supply constraints. The announcement has created worries among the public because people need constant access to gas for their regular activities.
