BANNU: At least six Frontier Constabulary (FC) constables suffered injuries in an attack by the militants in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, according to a police official.
“Terrorists attacked a Frontier Constabulary checkpoint situated in the border area of Takhti Khel Wazir in Bannu.
“As a result of the attack, six FC constables were injured, but the immediate response of the constabulary forced the terrorists to flee,” Bannu Police spokesperson Aamir Khan said while talking to the media.
The injured personnel were taken to the Combined Military Hospital in Bannu for advanced treatment, said the spokesperson.
“Police teams have been sent to the area and have begun a search operation to track down the terrorists,” he added.
President Asif Ali Zardari signed an act more than a week ago giving the federal government the authority to rename the FC, a border security force, the Federal Constabulary.
Terrorist attacks have increased in Pakistan, particularly in KP and Balochistan, and they primarily target security forces, law enforcement officers, and the police.
After the government and the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) breached a ceasefire agreement in 2022, attacks escalated.
Earlier, at least four militants of Balochistan Liberation Army (Fitnah-ul-Hindustan) have been eliminated by the Pakistan security forces in close-quarters engagement in the rugged terrain surrounding the attack site, according to security sources.
The operation also led to the recovery of arms, ammunition, and BLA flags, signalling the involvement of the banned militant group.
Aviation units were placed on standby to support ground forces and respond to any further threats in the area.
In a brazen act of terrorism, a bus carrying artists was targeted on the Quetta-Karachi highway, sparking a swift and forceful response from Pakistan security forces.
The cowardly act, believed to be carried out by militants associated with the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), aimed to disrupt peace and target cultural ambassadors of the nation.
As soon as the incident occurred, Pakistan special forces launched a high alert counter-operation in the region.
Authorities have called the operation “decisive and ongoing,” adding that no effort will be spared to ensure residents’ safety, particularly those who contribute to the country’s culture and identity.
“This attack is not just an assault on innocent people, but on Pakistan’s soul,” one official added. “Our response will be unwavering.”
