MIRPUR (Kashmir English): In response to a growing trend of unauthorised land occupation and construction, the District Magistrate of Mirpur, Yasir Riaz, has enforced Section 144 to prevent the development of illegal buildings in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmirs (AJK) on various categories of public and government-owned land.
According to an official notification, the measure has been taken due to increasing illegal encroachments on land designated as Khalsa Sarkar (state property), Shamilat (communal land), public interest plots, land belonging to WAPDA, the Irrigation Department, the Custodian Department, the Industries Department, and the Forest Department.
The District Magistrate stated that unauthorised cutting and construction activities are not only unlawful but are also disturbing public order. The growing trend of illegal buildings in Mirpur has led to frequent disputes among individuals and communities, causing disruption to peace and creating potential threats to public safety.
He warned that any individual or group found involved in unauthorised construction or encouraging such activity will face strict legal action. Violators will be prosecuted under Section 188 of the Azad Penal Code, which may result in imprisonment, a fine, or both.
“All concerned citizens are advised not to undertake any form of unauthorised cutting or construction on protected or public lands within the boundaries of Mirpur district,” the magistrate said.
To ensure strict enforcement of the order, all local government officers, including naib tehsildars and other relevant officials, have been instructed to take immediate criminal action against violators.
The limitations will stay active throughout two months beginning on the day of official publication. The local administration enables Section 144 to lower illegal Mirpur project escalations while maintaining government resources and safeguarding rights of appropriate landowners.
Through this firm decision the local government seeks to regain order in addition to warning against unauthorized encroachments and unlawful construction methods. The authorities request public compliance with the law by abstaining from any illegal construction efforts in Mirpur.
This decisive action from the authorities demonstrates their commitment to curb illegal building growth in Mirpur and maintain proper management of public property throughout the district.
