BAGH (Kashmir English): A tragic incident unfolded during a search operation in Bagh district on Friday when police officers from Rawalakot and Bagh came under fire, leaving two constables injured and a civilian dead.
According to the official statement released by the spokesperson for Bagh District Police, a police team led by SSP Rawalakot and accompanied by DSP Rawalakot and other officers travelled to Bagh earlier today. The visit followed the arrest of a suspect, Muiz, son of Mahmood Khan, a resident of Chak Dhmani, who was apprehended in Rawalakot on April 10, 2025.
During his arrest, Muiz possessed two 30-bore pistols together with multiple gun magazines and ammunition. During initial questioning, the suspect admitted he worked with Zarnosh and disclosed that he gave weapons to Zarnosh together with his accomplices during the previous day.
Detectives from the Rawalakot and Bagh police forces conducted an arrest mission for Zarnosh and his associates following the information under SSP Rawalakot and SSP Bagh’s supervisory authority. The police team encountered sudden gunfire from suspects when they arrived near Patrata Morh.
The firing shots struck Muhammad Farooq and Muhammad Areeb, who worked as police constables. Zahid Qureshi, a passerby on a motorcycle, sustained fatal injuries when he was caught in the crossfire. Despite hospital care at DHQ Hospital Bagh, the victim succumbed to his wounds before the doctors could save him.
The fatal incident forced police personnel from Bagh and Rawalakot to launch an intensive search operation aimed at capturing the assailants who carried out the attack. Public authorities promise to arrest perpetrators responsible while working to guarantee peace and security for the area.
