SDMA issues flood advisory for AJK as Jhelum River water level rises

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): In the view of rising water levels in Jhelum River, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has issued an advisory urging the residents of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to take precautionary measure to safeguard their lives.

According to the advisory, the water levels in Jhelum river are continuously rising at Chakothi area which may cause flash floods in areas of Muzaffarabad, Hattian Bala, Upper and downstream up to Mangla.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in collaboration with SDMA have urged the residents to take the precautionary steps before the flood hit these ares.

Precautionary Measures

The public is advised to take the following precautionary measures:

  • Avoid unnecessary movement along the banks of the river and streams.
  • Move livestock and valuables to safe places.
  • Do not let children near rivers and storm drains.
  • Fully cooperate with the district administration and rescue agencies in case of rain and increase in water level.
  • Report any emergency immediately.
