MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) Azad Kashmir on Thursday warned of dust storms and rain-thundershowers (with isolated hailstorms) from June 13 to 16.

SDMA’s weather advisory, citing the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), stated that moist currents are penetrating in upper parts of the country, and a westerly wave is also likely to approach the upper parts on June 13, 2025.

The authority warned that wind-dust storms, hailstorms, and lightning may damage loose structures like electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels, etc. during the spell.

It further advised the travelers and tourists to remain cautious to avoid any untoward situation during the forecast period. Farmers are advised to remain cautious during the forecast period to protect their crops from adverse weather conditions.

Moreover, the weather advisory urged the close monitoring of vulnerable areas due to the potential for rapid runoff and localized flooding.

Authorities are advised to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the situation and conduct mass public awareness campaigns to educate residents and travelers in vulnerable areas.

“Forewarn travelers/visitors about risks posed by landslides and likely hailstorms, significant drop in temperatures in vulnerable locations, and provide guidance and assistance in case of emergencies through local administration, police, and rescue services,” it read.

The disaster management authority urged authorities to ensure the availability of emergency services, personnel, and equipment in places with a high risk of urban floods, flash flooding, hill torrents, and landslides.

“Regular inspections of critical infrastructure, such as bridges and roads, should be conducted to identify and address any vulnerability that may lead to structural damage during heavy rainfall,” the SDMA said.

For road safety and infrastructure protection, the state authority urged traffic police to coordinate with law enforcement agencies to manage and redirect traffic from affected areas to safer areas in case of any untoward incident.

In addition to that, it advised the general public to seek shelter in safe areas such as sturdy buildings or underground structures during dust-wind, hail-thunderstorms, and avoid objects that pose a risk of being struck by lightning.
