MIRPUR (Kashmir English): In a major step towards promoting modern technology, the Special Communications Organization (SCO) has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Software Technology Park in Dadyal Tehsil of Mirpur.
According to the SCO press statement, the project aims to make the local youth financially independent. “It will connect them with modern technology by providing opportunities in the IT sector.”
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, SCO Director General, Major General Umar Ahmed Shah, said that this project is part of empowering the youth of the region through IT.
He said, “The establishment of a software technology park in Dadyal will open doors of development for local youth and allow them to acquire skills in modern technology, as well as have a positive impact on the economy of the region.”
So far, more than 6500 jobs have been created under various projects of SCO, while more than 1400 freelancers, a large number of whom are women, are engaged in online work, Maj Gen Shah added.
The prominent facilities of the Software Technology Park include state-of-the-art IT infrastructure, high-speed and uninterrupted internet, an incubation center for startups and entrepreneurs, and special working desks for freelancers (male and female). The facility will operate 24/7 and will provide opportunities for partnership with other national and regional IT organisations.
On the occasion, the SCO Director General expressed the hope that this park will prove to be a new milestone for IT companies, startups, and entrepreneurs and will help make Dadyal a prominent center in the field of modern technology.
Under the SCO’s Vision 2025, special attention is being paid to the promotion of Information Technology (IT) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
In this regard, this seventh Software Technology Park has been completed in Dadyal, while a total of more than 60 IT setups and Software Technology Parks (STPs) are working successfully.
In addition to that, more than 20 freelancing hubs have already become functional in different areas of Azad Kashmir, from which hundreds of youth are getting employment.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by SCO Azad Kashmir Sector Commander Colonel Yousuf Javed, Commanding Officer Mirpur Division Colonel Adeel Malik, and local administration and dignitaries of Dadyal.
