KOTLI (Kashmir English): The District Bar Association elections for Kotli have been held, and polling for the posts of President and General Secretary has concluded.
According to the polling results, Sardar Aftab Anjum has been elected as the new President, collecting 227 votes; while Syed Aamir Shah was elected as the General Secretary, getting 237 votes.
For the presidential elections, there were three candidates: Raja Muhammad Najeeb Advocate Supreme Court; Chaudhry Sajid Mahmood Advocate Supreme Court; and Sardar Aftab Anjum Advocate.
The Secretary Elections were contested between Syed Aamir Hussain Shah Advocate and Mudassar Ali Azad Advocate.
There was a short circuit in the polling process when two newly admitted advocates who attempted to cast fake votes were arrested by police. The incident delayed polling by an hour, but the Election Commissioner and other members of the Bar Council brokered peace, reverting to a new poll.
Concerning other developments, Malik Shahnawaz Khan Advocate was elected unopposed to the position of Vice President Male. Sobia Qureshi Advocate and Umair Sheikh Advocate were also elected unopposed to Vice President Female and Joint Secretary, respectively.
The Election Board consisted of Chaudhry Abdul Salam Arif Advocate Supreme Court, Raja Banaras Khan Advocate, and Arshad Latif Advocate, ensuring a free and fair election process.
