AHMEDABAD (Kashmir English): India’s opener and wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson equaled former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi’s 17-year-old record in the T20 World Cup final.

In the final match being played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India set a record target of 256 runs for New Zealand, thanks to Sanju Samson’s brilliant batting.

This is the highest target in any Men’s T20 World Cup final so far. Sanju Samson played an innings of 89 runs off 46 balls with the help of 8 sixes and 5 fours.

This is Sanju Samson’s third consecutive half-century in this World Cup. Earlier, he scored a half-century against the West Indies in the crucial Super 8 match and then against England in the semi-final.

With today’s half-century, Sanju Samson has become the third player in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to score a half-century in both the semi-final and the final. Only Shahid Afridi and Virat Kohli were present in this list before him.

Shahid Afridi achieved this feat in the 2009 World Cup, while Kohli achieved this feat in the 2014 World Cup.

Apart from this, Sanju Samson set another world record today. He also became the batsman to score the most runs in a T20 World Cup final with 89 runs.

He broke the records of West Indies’ Marlon Samuels and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson today. Marlon Samuels scored 85 runs against England in the 2016 World Cup, while Kane Williamson played an innings of 85 runs against Australia in the 2021 World Cup final.
