RAWALPINDI (Kashmir English): Rawalpindi Railway Station has become Pakistan’s first railway station to have foolproof security system, with the installation of over 180 cameras and a modern scanning system in place.
The premises has already been secured with a strong 10-foot high wall topped with barbed wire and connected to security watchtowers.
High-performance CCTV cameras installed at the station building, entry and exit points, parking area, and sitting areas keep constant surveillance of all visitors.
Furthermore, passengers’ luggage is screened through modern scanning machines, with objects clearly visible to active staff on large screens.
These security measures at the station platforms, and other areas has ensured safety and security of the travellers.
A truly ‘Smart’ Railway Station
According to staff associated with the smart system, modern surveillance system and improved security has transformed the premises into a smart and secured Railway Station.
Alongside foolproof security, an exemplary cleanliness system has also been enforced at the station. Uniformed staff of the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company remain engaged in continuous cleaning operations. For travellers convenience, a modern CIP (Commercially Important Person) lounge has also been set up, where AC parlour and AC sleeper passengers can spend up to three hours in a comfortable and clean environment for Rs300 only.
Tea and snacks are served to the CIP passengers and they can also avail facilities such as Wi-Fi, LED screens, and washrooms. Well-dressed staff are present to assist and guide passengers.
Railway officials said that before establishing the foolproof security system through over 180 CCTV cameras, both the front and backyard areas of the station were covered with a strong 10-foot-high wall topped with barbed wire.
Watchtowers will add to the security inside the premises as access to the main station area has now been restricted to designated routes only.
A separate security system has also been installed at the railway yard to ensure complete security coverage of the station.
