LAHORE (Kashmir English): The two-day strike of transporters came to an end on Friday after negotiations with the government concluded successfully, prompting the suspension of fines and a review of the controversial Traffic Ordinance 2025.
The transporters have called off their strike following successful negotiations between Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar and Transporters United Action Committee Chairman Ismatullah Niazi.
Following the agreement, the transporters have announced the immediate resumption of all suspended business activities, bringing relief to commercial and passenger transit.
Addressing the press conference, Transport Minister Bilal Akbar stated that talks with transporters had been ongoing for the last two days in an effort to address their concerns and end the strike that had disrupted transport services across the province.
He revealed that no consultations were held with transporters before the introduction of the Traffic Ordinance 2025, which triggered widespread resentment within the transport community.
He stated that the implementation of the new Traffic Ordinance 2025 has been temporarily halted for all commercial transport, and fines are being suspended, though it will remain in effect for private vehicles.
A special committee has been formed, which will consult with all stakeholders and present its recommendations to the government to resolve the problems of transporters. Ismatullah Niazi confirmed the government had accepted their demands, leading to the end of the protest.
